Introduction and prerequisites...

Water Resources Engineering is a multi-disciplinary science subject. Students have to study analytical, mathematical and theoretical courses in this subject. Therefore students should have expertise in basic sciences like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Besides students should have a good grip on English. Precisely to say, physics, statics, dynamics are the core subjects and students having expertise in these subjects do well in WRE. We have some field based works in our curriculum. For that reason, students also have to do some field works and survey. Apart from academic studies, they have to do some physical labor in these field works.

Interesting events and competitions...

Water Resources Engineering Students Association (WRESA) is a student organization. They basically organize different cultural functions, sports functions, festivals etc. We also have a study tour as part of a departmental program. We also have internship facilities for our final year students.

Goals that can be achieved...

We are mainly water resources expert. Our works will be mainly as hydro technical engineer, hydrologists, river specialist, coastal expert, groundwater specialist, climate expert, water modeling expert etc.

Jobs at home and abroad...

WRE graduates can work in both private and public sectors. We have Water Development Board, WASA, River Research Institute and other government organizations where our graduates can work. Besides private firms like Institute of Water Modeling, BETS etc. are the choices where graduates are working. The starting salary is around 30 thousand taka, which increases gradually later.

There also some international organizations. United Nations provide huge opportunities in this sector. UNESCO is one of them. At present we all know that climate is a burning issue. So in WRE, we deal with climates and climatology with utmost care and sincerity. Our graduates can also work at IPCC, World Meteorological Organization etc. Besides there are organizations working on structural designs like Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Deep Ocean Technology (DOT) etc. They work on underwater and overwater structures, for example Burj Khalifa. Construction of such structures requires Water Modeling Engineers like us.

Higher studies...

Higher studies opportunities are huge in WRE. A handful of graduates from our department obtained a prestigious scholarship named Erasmus Mundus from Europe. Our graduates are also getting scholarships from universities like University of Alberta, University of North Carolina, University of South Carolina etc.

Research fields...

There are several research areas in this sector. For example in our country, river bank erosion, climate problems, coastal problems, water quality problems etc. are some burning issues. In our department, we are devoted to researches on these problems using both mathematical modeling and physical modeling.

To the newcomers...

Those who are willing to solve real life problems, willing to take the challenge of solving water related issues like utilization of water resources and solving water crisis can take WRE. I can quote John F Kennedy, this is my favorite quote. He said, "If anyone solves water related problem, he deserves not one but two Nobel prizes, one for science and another for peace". I strongly believe that most of the problems in our country can be solved by Water Resources Engineering. So those who are willing to solve these problems or are curious to work on these problems, they must choose WRE.

Subject Demand

Since water is the most crucial factor and the most harmed when environmental pollution occurs, the demand for Water Resources expert are on the rise. Local demand might sound confusing, but the increasing scholarships in European universities certainly indicate that these countries are eager to hold on to Water experts for the betterment of their locality.

Interesting Fields

River bank erosion, climate problems, coastal problems, water quality problems etc. are some burning issues.Besides construction of overwater or underwater structures like Burj Khalifa at UAE requires Water Modeling Engineers, who are obviously from WRE.
